Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian attends the International Conference on Afghanistan.

28 January, 2010

28.01.2010. H.E. Mr. Edward Nalbandian, Armenia's Foreign Minister participated in the International Conference on Afghanistan, held at the Lancaster House, London. Foreign Ministers of more than 70 countries, as well as heads of several major international organizations were among the participants.

Mr. Nalbandian had a number of bilateral meetings in the framework of the Conference. In particular, the current level of US-Armenian relations, as well as the recent developments in Turkish-Armenian relations were discussed with the US Secretary of State Mrs. Hillary Clinton. Secretary Clinton expressed her satisfaction with the level of dialogue and cooperation with Armenia, and reaffirmed the US support for the ongoing process of the normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey, stressing the importance of the decision of Armenia's Constitutional Court on the correspondence of the Protocols signed between Armenia and Turkey to the Armenian Constitution. Minister Nalbandian praised the positive US role both in the process of the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations, as well as in the OSCE Minsk Group, which is mediating a peaceful solution between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Minister Nalbandian also met with Mr. Chris Bryant, UK Minister for Europe. Issues of bilateral, regional and international importance were discussed. The Armenian Foreign Minister shared his insights on the recent developments in Armenian-Turkish relations, as well as the programs of cooperation between Armenia and the EU. Chris Bryant once again welcomed the efforts made by the Turkish and Armenian Governments on establishing normal relations between the two sides. Both parties agreed on the importance of helding regular political consultations and expanding the legislative framework between the two countries.
