The visit of the Foreign Minister of Armenia to the United Kingdom has started

 On September 9, the official visit of the Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian started with the meeting with the the UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Philip Hammond.

Welcoming Minister Nalbandian, Philip Hammond attached significance to the continuity of the high-level active interaction.

Edward Nalbandian mentioned that high-level visits, inter-parliamentary interaction became more frequent recently, business ties are activated, which creates promising prerequisite for the further strengthening and expansion of cooperation in various fields. Heads of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Foreign Office of the UK discussed ways of expansion of cooperation in different fields between the two countries.

The Ministers touched upon Armenia-European Union relations, steps undertaken for formation of a new legal basis of cooperation.

Foreign Ministers of Armenia and the UK thoroughly exchanged thoughts over the situation unfolding in the Middle East, the Syrian crisis and ways to resolve it, international community’s fight against terrorism, agreements reached over Iran nuclear program and developments stemming from them.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia presented to the Secretary of State Philip Hammond events held on the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide and their message. In this context, Minister Nalbandian expressed gratitude to the United Kingdom for co-sponsoring the Resolution on the Prevention of genocide initiated by Armenia in the United Nations Human Rights Council in March.

Afterwards, Edward Nalbandian had a working dinner with the UK Minister for Europe David Lidington, during which a reference was made to the Armenian-British relations, Armenia-European Union cooperation, Ukrainian crisis and ways to settle it, a range of international issues.

The sides discussed ways of settlement of the regional conflicts. Minister Nalbandian presented the joint efforts exerted by Armenia and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs for the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. The UK Minister for Europe expressed his country’s support to the activities of the Minsk Group in this direction.

On the same day Edward Nalbandian gave an extensive interview to the BBC.
