Visit of the Ambassador Armen Sarkissian to Scotland

The delegation headed by Dr. Armen Sarkissian, Ambassador of the Republic fo Armenia to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, visited Scotland on 31 May 2017. The delegation had meeitngs with the Rt Hon. Ken Macintosh, Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, Dr Alasdair Allen, Minister of International Development and Europe, Frank Ross, The Lord Provost of Edinburgh.

During the meeting with Dr Alasdair Allen, Minister of International Development and Europe,  who is also in charge for the Scottish diaspora, the two  sides discussed  the possibilities of promoting the cooperation in the fields of culture,  tourism, IT, banking and finance. Dr. Sarkissian introduced the potential of Armenia in the spheres of tourism, high technologies, the opportunities for foreign investors and businessmen in the context of Armenia’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as its dynamically developing relations with the EU. The sides noted the importance of deepening ties and exchanging experience between the Armenian and Scottish official bodies in charge of Diaspora matters.

Dr. Sarkissian outlined the commitment of the Armenian side to promoting beneficial cooperation in all fields of mutual interest at the meeting with The Rt Hon. Ken Macintosh, Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament. They noted the necessity of activating ties between the Armenian and Scottish parliamentarians in the context of Armenian-British parliamentary dialogue. Therefore, it was agreed to organise bilateral visits, consultations and other joint initiatives. Dr. Sarkissian introduced the main phases of the development of Armenia after its independence, provide information about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and importance of the transition of Armenia to the parliamentary republic.

At the meeting with Frank Ross, The Lord Provost of Edinburgh, the sides discussed the opportunities of developing cooperation between Yerevan and Edinburgh in the fields of tourism, culture, international frameworks, as well as touched upon the opportunities of widening the commercial ties.
