London Events dedicated to the 99th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide

On April 24 a silent vigil was organised in front of the Turkish Embassy in London, which marked the beginning of the series of events commemorating the 99^th Anniversary of the Genocide.

On the same day a concert was organised at St Yeghishe Church dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. The Chairman of the British-Armenian Community and Council Ara Palamudian and the Primate of the UK and Ireland Diocese Bishop Vahan Hovhanessian presented their speeches during the evening. A message from the Armenian Ambassador Dr Armen Sarkissian was read out.

Pupils from the Armenian Saturday and Sunday Schools, as well as British-Armenian actors and musicians, were participating in the concert programme. The evening programme included songs by the Armenian and European composers and poem recitals.

The annual march dedicated to the victims of Armenian Genocide took place on April 26. More than 1000 Armenians marched through the streets of London, holding the flags of Armenia and Artsakh and posters condemning the Genocide, accompanied by chants demanding the recognition of the Genocide. A wreath was placed at the Cenotaph on Whitehall by the Armenian Embassy representatives, primate and the coordinating committee of the 100^th Anniversary.

An inaugural concert of the newly formed AGBU Chamber Orchestra took place on the same evening at St Yeghishe Church.
