Visit of the Embassy's representatives to Derby

27 January, 2020

On January 27, the representatives of the Embassy of Armenia to the UK, visited Derby to participate at the events, dedicated to the Holocaust Memorial Day and attended by members of the City Council, foreign diplomats, representatives of different communities and academic circles.

In his remarks the political officer of the Embassy Aram Araratyan noted that he represents a nation that knows the deep trauma of the genocide not from textbooks, but from its own history. The Armenian diplomat emphasized that the recognition and condemnation of genocides, commemoration and tribute to the dignity of their victims are powerful means of preventing atrocity crimes.

He expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Derby City Council, the Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) committee members and Mr Russell Pollard in particular for recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide in 2018.

Armenian diplomats participated at the reception hosted by the Mayor Councillor Frank Harwood, as well as at the commemoration ceremonies at the Bridge Chapel and Cathedral Green.

Diplomats also had a meeting with the representatives of the Armenian community.
